How many Orphans are there?

This is not really known.  There is no central government register which lists all orphans.  

The Orphan Identification Project is seeking to rectify this in this area.  But it is a slow process.  Currently, initial contact is mainly made through schools.  As not everyone goes to school, other avenues are also needed.  Permission is needed from local Chiefs before we can go into the local communities.

The children here waiting to be registered with MusaweNkosi.  MusaweNkosi will take basic details, and then will follow the contacts up. When all the paperwork has been collected for each individual, an application for a foster grant will be lodged with the local courts.
